Scope
The first method of this part of GB/T 14454 specifies the method for the determination of the carbonyl value of essential oils and the content of carbonyl compounds in isolated and synthetic fragrances by the hydroxylamine hydrochloride method. In this method, the method of cold oximation with hydroxylamine hydrochloride is suitable for spices whose main components are easily oximated aldehydes or ketones (except citronellal, which needs low temperature to avoid cyclization and acetalization); The method of thermal oximation with hydroxylamine hydrochloride is suitable for spices whose main components are ketones that are generally difficult to oximate. The second method of this part of GB/T 14454 specifies the method for the determination of the carbonyl value of essential oils and the content of carbonyl compounds in isolated and synthetic fragrances by the free hydroxylamine method. This method is applicable to fragrances containing carbonyl compounds (especially ketones, except methyl ketones) that are not easily converted into oxime compounds by the method specified in the first method, and is not suitable for fragrances containing a large amount of esters or alkali-sensitive components of spices. The third method of this part of GB/T 14454 specifies the method for the determination of carbonyl compounds in spices by the neutral sodium sulfite method, which is suitable for the determination of carbonyl compounds in aldehydes and certain ketone spices. Which method to use in this part will be specified in the relevant fragrance product standard.
