This standard specifies the eddy current testing technology mainly used to detect surface openings and surface defects near the surface of ferromagnetic materials (welds, heat-affected zones, base metals). This standard can also be used for the detection of non-ferromagnetic materials if required by the design specification. This standard applies to the detection of bare or coated welds during onshore and offshore fabrication, installation, and in-use. Inspection can be performed on all accessible weld surfaces of all types. Eddy current testing is usually carried out in the welded state, and surface roughness may affect its testing accuracy.
