This part of GB/T 18851 specifies the general principles of penetrant testing methods for materials and workpieces during processing and use, such as visual field testing. This standard does not deal with the levels of acceptance or rejection, which should be specified in a separate standard or in an agreement between the parties involved. Penetrant testing is suitable for determining the location of discontinuities - such as overlaps, folds, cracks (cracks), holes and fissures - in the surface openings of a material or workpiece. The infiltration technique can be applied to materials of any physical nature provided that the surface is normally nonabsorbent and compatible with the infiltration process; see 6.1. When implementing penetration testing, if it needs to be verified, it should refer to GB/T 18851.5.
