This standard specifies the test procedures that should be followed when conducting type tests for newly designed or improved automobile engines (basic engines) and engine families, including the implementation conditions, test items, test procedures, test evaluation and report content of the type tests. This standard applies to ignition-type and compression-ignition water-cooled engines for passenger cars and commercial vehicles, including engines burning gasoline, diesel, natural gas, petroleum gas, alcohol and other fuels.
