WARNING: The application of this standard may involve certain hazardous materials, operations and equipment. However, not all security issues related to this are advised. It is the user's responsibility to establish appropriate safety and protection measures and to clarify the scope of its restricted use before using this standard. 1.1 This standard specifies the method for determining the flash point of flammable liquids, liquids with suspended particles, liquids whose surface tends to form a film under test conditions, and other liquids by the Pensky-Martin closed-mouth flash point tester. This standard applies to samples with a flash point higher than 40°C. 1.2 The test procedure of this standard includes two parts, step A and step B. 1.2.1 Step A applies to paints and varnishes that do not form a film on the surface, virgin lubricating oils, and other petroleum products not included in Step B. 1.2.2 Step B is applicable to residual fuel oil, diluted bitumen, used lubricating oil, liquids whose surface tends to form a film, liquids with suspended particles, and highly viscous materials (such as polymer solutions and adhesives). 1.3 This standard is not applicable to aqueous paints or liquids containing highly volatile materials.
