- Scope
- This standard applies to polymer insulators whose insulator consists of one or more organic materials. This standard covers both solid and hollow polymer insulators. They are used on overhead lines, indoor and outdoor installations with a rated voltage above 1000V. The purpose of this standard is to: - define general terms used for polymer insulators; - specify general test methods for design tests of polymer insulators; - specify acceptance or rejection criteria, when applicable; Advice is given when the test standards and product standards of the standard need to be supplemented by specific requirements. These tests, guidelines and recommendations are intended to ensure that insulators have a satisfactory service life under normal operating and environmental conditions (see Clause 5).
