GB/T 5169.12-2006 Fire hazard testing for electric and electronic products Part 12: Glowing/hot-wire based test methods Glow-wire flammability test method for materials (English Version)
This part of GB/T 5169 specifies the glow-wire test method for determining the glow-wire flammability index (GWFI) on solid electrical insulating materials or other solid material test samples. The test results allow for a relative comparison of the performance of the various materials described above, i.e. the ability of the material to extinguish the flame after removal of the electrically heated glow wire and the ability to produce no flaming or glowing particles that would ignite the underlying wrapping tissue under the test sample . This test method is not suitable for determining the flammability of the entire equipment, because the size of the insulation system or combustible parts, the arrangement and heat transfer of adjacent metal or non-metal parts, etc., have a great influence on the flammability of the materials used. In addition, this test method is not suitable for determining the fire performance and fire hazard of equipment. It is one of the tasks of standardization technical committees to make use of these basic safety publications, where applicable, when preparing their own publications.
