This standard specifies the glow wire test method for the flammability test of samples of solid electrical insulating materials and other solid combustible materials. The test results can be used to evaluate the performance of the above-mentioned various materials, that is, the ability to extinguish the flame after removing the heated glow wire and the ability of the sample to burn to produce glowing particles without igniting the underlying tissue paper under the test sample. This test method is not suitable for determining the flammability of all items of equipment, because the size and structure of the insulation system or combustible parts, and the heat transfer of adjacent metallic or non-metallic parts have a great influence on the flammability of the materials used. In addition, this test method is not intended for use in determining the fire performance or fire hazard of equipment.
