- Scope
- This International Standard specifies the minimum coating thickness requirements for six classes of zinc coatings applied to ferrous materials using the sherardization process to protect against corrosion and wear. This International Standard does not specify any requirements for the surface condition (finish or roughness) of the base material before sherardizing. Post-treatments (conversion layers), subsequent treatments or organic coatings (duplex systems) of sherardized components are not covered by the international standard. NOTE 1 For general information on post-treatments see Annex C and Annex D. This International Standard does not apply to sherardized products (e.g. fasteners, pipes) for which there are specific standards and for which requirements are additional or different from this International Standard requirements may apply. NOTE 2 Individual product standards may reference this layer standard by number or incorporate it with product-specific modifications.
