This International Standard specifies methods for testing the flash point of coating materials, including water-thinnable coating materials, varnishes, binders for paints and varnishes, adhesives, solvents, mineral oil products and related products in a temperature range of -30 °C to 300 °C. These methods are used to determine whether or not a product will flash at a specified temperature (Flash Point Method A) or what the flash point of a sample is (Method B). If the detector (see A.) is used, this International Standard can also be used to determine the flash points of fatty acid methyl esters (FAME).
