Scope: This standard specifies the titration method for the determination of free hydroxyl groups in paint and varnish binders and binder solutions. The hydroxyl groups can be present in the form of polyols, partial esters, polyester end groups or hydroxy fatty acids. This standard does not apply to resins containing both hydroxyl and epoxy groups, since the latter are also included in the results. This standard also does not apply to nitrocellulose or phenolic resins. The hydroxyl value determination method of epoxy resin is carried out according to the provisions of ISO 7142:2007.
