Scope
This International Standard defines the terms relating to the quality assurance of nutritional media. It further specifies the requirements for the preparation of nutrient media to be used for microbiological examinations of such foods, feed and environmental samples from food or feed production, as well as all types of water intended for consumption or used in food production . These requirements apply to all types of culture media prepared for use in laboratories carrying out microbiological studies. This International Standard also specifies criteria and describes procedures for testing the performance of nutrient media. This International Standard applies to manufacturing facilities such as: E.g.: commercial establishments that produce and/or distribute ready-to-use media, semi-finished media or dry media; non-commercial entities that supply media to third parties; microbiological laboratories that produce culture media for their own use.
