Scope

This standard specifies the safety requirements for switch-mode power supply units and transformers for switch-mode power supply units. Transformers with electronic circuits are also included in this standard. This section applies to: a) Built-in safety isolating transformers, providing AC or DC SELV, PELV or FELV output voltages or some combination of them in accordance with IEC 61140 and IEC 60364-4-41 output voltages, for household and other purposes Switching-mode power supply units for consumer products, other than those covered by IEC 60065, the IEC 61347 series, IEC 61204-7 and IEC 60950-1; b) with a maximum output voltage not exceeding 1000 V a.c. or 1414 V d.c. Switching-mode power supply units for household and other consumer products, except for the products covered in a) and the products covered by IEC 60065, IEC 61347 series, IEC 61204-7 and IEC 60950-1; c) this part can be used for switching Transformers used in type power supply units (see Appendix BB). This section contains safety requirements for: -- corresponding to IEC 61558-2-1 general-purpose isolated SMPS; -- corresponding to IEC 61558-2-4 general-purpose isolated SMPS; -- corresponding to IEC 61558-2- 6 for general purpose safety isolation SMPS;--corresponding to IEC 61558-2-13 for general purpose self-coupling SMPS. For application-specific SMPS corresponding to other Part 2 of the IEC 61558 series, the necessary requirements of the corresponding Part 2 apply. In addition, the requirements listed in this section also apply. If the two requirements conflict, the most stringent requirement takes precedence. This Part includes stationary or mobile, single-phase or multi-phase, air-cooled (natural or forced cooling), independent or supporting switch-mode power supply units, whose rated power supply voltage does not exceed AC 1100 V, and the rated power frequency does not exceed more than 500
