Scope

This standard specifies the basic terms, principles and methods used to achieve machinery safety in the process of machinery design, as well as the principles of risk assessment and risk reduction, so as to help designers achieve the goal of machinery safety. These principles are based on knowledge and experience of the design, use, events, accidents and risks associated with machinery. This standard also specifies procedures for identifying hazards, estimating and evaluating risks, procedures for eliminating hazards or adequately reducing risks, and guidelines for documenting and verifying risk assessment and risk reduction procedures during the relevant stages of the machine life cycle. This standard applies to machinery defined in 3.1. This standard does not address risks and/or hazards to livestock, property or the environment. This standard can also be used as the basis for developing Class B or Class C safety standards.
