This standard specifies the requirements, test methods, inspection rules and markings, packaging, transportation and storage of marine low-voltage surge protectors. This standard applies to surge protectors in ship low-voltage power distribution systems that suppress the effects of indirect lightning and direct lightning or other instantaneous overvoltages. The surge protector is assembled and connected to circuits and equipment with a rated voltage of AC not exceeding 1000 V (rms), 50/60 Hz or DC not exceeding 1500 V instantaneously.
