This part specifies the performance, test, rating, safety requirements, installation and operation guidelines of shunt capacitors used in AC power systems with a nominal voltage above 1000V. This standard applies to capacitor units and capacitor banks specially used to improve the power factor of AC power systems with a nominal voltage above 1000V and a frequency between 15Hz and 60Hz. This section also applies to capacitors used in power filter circuits. This section does not apply to self-healing metallized dielectric capacitors. The purposes of this standard are as follows: To state uniform rules concerning the nature, rating and testing of units and capacitor banks. Describe special safety rules; provide installation and operation rules.
