Scope
Note: Corrosion-resistant alloys and other alloys selected in accordance with this standard are resistant to cracking in the hydrogen sulfide-containing environment specified in oil and gas production, but not necessarily prevent cracking in all service environments. The selection of appropriate corrosion-resistant alloys and other alloys for the intended service environment is the responsibility of the equipment user. This part of GB/T 20972 gives the requirements and recommended practices for the selection and evaluation of corrosion-resistant alloys (CRA) and other alloys for equipment in the environment containing hydrogen sulfide (HS) in oil and gas extraction and natural gas processing plants. Failure could result in a hazard to the public, personal health and safety, or the environment. Use of this section will help avoid this costly corrosion damage to your equipment. This standard is a supplement to those appropriate design codes, standards and guidelines, but does not replace their requirements for materials. This section describes the resistance of these materials to damage caused by sulfide stress cracking (SSC), stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and galvanic-induced hydrogen stress cracking (GHSC). This standard deals only with cracking and not with loss of material due to general corrosion (loss of mass) or localized corrosion. This standard applies to the selection and evaluation of materials used in the design and manufacture of equipment according to conventional elasticity criteria. For the design using plasticity criteria (such as design based on strain and limit state), according to the requirements of Chapter 5 of GB/T 20972.1-2007. This section does not necessarily apply to refinery or downstream processing equipment.
