Scope: This standard specifies the terms of agreement, preparation of operating procedures, personnel qualifications, equipment and accessories, calibration and inspection, testing timing, surface condition, sensitivity, scanning, classification, recording level and acceptance criteria for ultrasonic testing of steel forgings. This standard applies to ferritic-martensitic steel forgings, austenitic and austenitic-ferritic stainless steel forgings ultrasonic pulse reflection manual testing methods. The mechanized scanning method of liquid immersion detection can also be used after negotiation between the supplier and the purchaser. Forgings of other organizations can also be used as a reference. This standard divides forgings into 4 categories according to shape and production method. Types 1, 2, and 3 are forgings with simple shapes, and Type 4 is forgings with complex shapes. This standard does not apply to: dense die forgings, steam turbine rotors and engine forgings.
