Scope
This standard specifies two methods for the preparation of fatty acid methyl esters, the boron trifluoride method and the potassium hydroxide-hydrogen chloride method, and a method for quantitative analysis of fatty acids in fats using gas chromatography equipped with a capillary column and a flame ionization detector. This standard is applicable to the determination of fatty acids in animal and vegetable fats, oils and mixed fatty acids in formulated animal feeds, and extracts of compound feed fats (including fats and fatty acid mixtures containing butyric acid). This standard does not apply to polymerized fatty acids.
