Scope

This standard adopts the method of measuring the vibration of non-rotating and non-reciprocating parts of the whole machine to evaluate the mechanical vibration of reciprocating machines. Shaft vibration, including torsional vibration, is outside the scope of this standard. This standard applies to reciprocating piston machines with a rated power greater than 100 kW that are rigidly or elastically mounted, such as marine propulsion engines, marine auxiliary engines, diesel generators, gas compressors and locomotive diesel engines. This standard is generally used for operation monitoring and acceptance tests, and is also used to evaluate whether the vibration of the machine has adverse effects on the instruments and equipment directly installed on the machine. This standard also applies to machines driven by or driven by reciprocating machinery, these will be assessed in accordance with the relevant standards and classifications. It must be clear that the application of this standard is limited when considering the effects of machine internal components, such as valves, loose pistons, piston rings, etc., which are unlikely to be reflected in the measurements. The identification of these problems requires the scope of this standard. Noise is also outside the scope of this standard. This standard does not apply to land vehicles (such as trucks, buses, self-propelled construction machinery and tractors).
