This standard specifies the basic rules for the detection of surface opening defects in metal welds using penetrant testing methods. It also specifies the acceptance levels indicated by penetrant testing. The acceptance levels specified in this standard are primarily intended for manufacturing inspection and may also be used for in-service inspection if deemed appropriate. The acceptance level in this standard is based on the detection capabilities that can be achieved using the methods specified in JB/T 9218 and the parameters recommended by this standard. The acceptance level is related to welding standards, application standards, technical conditions or regulations, etc. More information on indicating acceptance levels can be found in the product or application standards. The basic rules that should be followed when applying non-destructive testing specified in GB/T 5616 apply to this standard.
