This standard specifies the terms and definitions, general principles and personnel competency requirements, general procedures, analysis methods, analysis reports and preservation of residual samples for wire rope failure analysis. This standard is applicable to the failure analysis of steel wire ropes for various purposes. The failure analysis of steel wires and steel wire rope products can be used as a reference. Note: This standard provides guidance for analyzing the failure of steel wire ropes due to manufacturing defects, damage to loading, unloading, storage, and installation, or broken wires, broken strands, breaks, corrosion, overloading, etc. Under normal circumstances, because the failed steel wire rope has withstood complex stresses such as load, bending, extrusion, and rotation, the appearance, size, mechanics, and process properties of the steel wire rope and the steel wires in the rope have changed. Therefore, its appearance, size, mechanics, etc. and process performance test results are not used as a basis for determining whether the steel wire rope is qualified before leaving the factory.
