Scope
This standard specifies a method for evaluating the ability of automotive engine oils to inhibit camshaft cam wear. This standard is applicable to the evaluation of gasoline engine oil performance. The test engine is a Nis an KA24E spark plug ignition engine, and the valvetrain uses an overhead camshaft and a sliding rocker arm. This standard simulates the long-term idling operation conditions of automobile engines. The main test results are the camshaft wear amount (the camshaft has twelve cams, and each cam is measured at seven positions), followed by the cam apex wear amount and the wear metal iron content in the engine oil sample after the test. Other measurements such as fuel dilution, non-ferrous wear metal content and total oil consumption help assess the validity of the test results.
