- This part of GB/T 9279 specifies a method for determining the resistance of topcoats of single or composite coating systems of paints, varnishes or related products by continuously increasing the load applied to the stylus with the stylus. Scratch method. This test method has proven useful for comparing the scratch resistance of different coatings. This test method is useful for determining relative ratings of a series of painted panels showing appreciable differences in scratch resistance. Neither this part nor ISO 1518-1 specifies the method of using a curved stylus, which is specified in ISO 12137. The choice between the three methods will depend on the particular practical situation.
