This standard specifies the method for determining the bromine value of petroleum fractions and industrial aliphatic olefins by titrating with a standard solution and indicating the end point by a potentiometric titrator. This standard applies to petroleum fractions whose 90% distillation temperature is below 327°C, such as gasoline, kerosene and gas oil. It is also suitable for various aliphatic monoene mixtures with a bromine number in the range of 95 to 165, industrial propylene trimers and tetramers, butene dimers and mixed nonene, octene and heptene. This standard does not apply to oils with additives such as alcohol, copper, ether and amines, nor to normal a-olefins.
