- This standard is applicable to the determination of aromatic carbon content in operating mineral insulating oils. It uses the relationship between the absorbance at 1610 cm-1 and the hydrocarbon group analysis (ndM) to determine the proportion of the total carbon atoms present in the aromatic ring structure, and the conversion factor derived from this relationship is applicable Oils with a molecular weight range of 290-500 and an aromatic carbon content of 2-35%.
