This part of GB 3836 specifies the classification of hazardous locations where flammable gases, vapors or mists may appear (see Note 1, Note 2 and Note 3), as the basis for supporting the correct selection and installation of electrical equipment for these hazardous locations. This section applies to places where flammable gases or vapors mixed with air may cause ignition hazards under standard atmospheric conditions (see Note 4), but does not apply to the following places: a) coal mine gas; b) explosives processing and manufacturing; c) places where there may be dangers caused by combustible dust or fibers (see GB 12476.3); d) abnormal catastrophic accidents beyond the scope of this part (see Note 5); e) medical indoors; f) residential buildings . This section does not consider the impact of consequential damages. Definitions and explanations of terms are presented together based on the main principles and steps of hazardous location classification. For detailed requirements and recommendations on the scope of hazardous locations for specific industries or special applications, refer to the design specifications of relevant industries.
