Scope

This standard specifies a method for determining the total aromatic hydrocarbons and total saturated hydrocarbons in lubricating base oils without additives using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with a differential refractive index detector. This standard is applicable to samples with total aromatic hydrocarbon content between 0.2% (mass fraction) and 46% (mass fraction). If the sample contains polar compounds, the content of the polar compounds is included in the total aromatic hydrocarbons.
