- Scope
- This standard specifies a method for the determination of ethers and alcohols in gasoline using gas chromatography. The special components measured are: methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), ethyl tert-butyl ether (ETBE), methyl tert-amyl ether (TAME), diis propyl ether (DIPE), methanol, ethanol , is propanol, n-propanol, is butanol, tert-butanol, sec-butanol, n-butanol and tert-amyl alcohol. This standard is applicable to the mass fraction range of single ether determination from 0.20% to 20.0%. The mass fraction range of single alcohol determination is 0.20%~12.0%. This standard provides calculation formulas for converting each component into oxygen mass fraction and volume fraction. When the mass fraction is less than 0.20%, hydrocarbons will interfere with some ethers and alcohols. The detection limit for gasoline with an olefin content of no more than 10% (volume fraction) is 0.20% (mass fraction). For gasoline with an olefin content greater than 10% (volume fraction), hydrocarbon interference may be greater than 0.20% (mass fraction). Appendix A shows the chromatogram of hydrocarbon interference in gasoline with an olefin content of 10% (volume fraction). This standard does not apply to alcohol-based fuels, such as M-85, E-85, MTBE products, ethanol products and denatured alcohol. Benzene can be detected simultaneously by this standard, but it cannot be quantified and needs to be analyzed by another method (see test method SH/T 0713).
