Scope
This standard specifies the method for determining the 20C density of usually liquid crude oil, petroleum products, and mixtures of petroleum products and non-petroleum products in the laboratory using a glass petroleum density meter (hereinafter referred to as the density meter). These liquids have a Reid vapor pressure (RVP) of less than 100 kPa. This standard is applicable to the determination of the density of easy-flowing transparent liquids, and a suitable constant temperature bath can also be used to measure viscous liquids above room temperature; Take the reading at the tangent of the tube and use Table 1 to correct it. Since the accurate reading of the density meter is calibrated at the specified temperature, the scale reading at other temperatures is only the reading of the density meter (called apparent density), not the density at that temperature. Notes: 1 The accuracy of this standard for determining the density of volatile or waxy crude oils containing free or suspended water and sediment may be lower than the precision given in Chapter 13. This is due to the possible loss of light components when mixing the samples. However, sample mixing is necessary to ensure that the sample transferred to the density cylinder is representative of the entire sample. The mixed sample technique given in Chapter 7 minimizes the loss of light components. 2 The 20C density value can be converted to the corresponding 15C density using GB/T 1885 "Petroleum Meter".
