Scope
This standard specifies the method for the determination of styrene content in styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) by spectrophotometer. This standard applies to the determination of styrene content in styrene-butadiene rubber reinforced with styrene homopolymer. This standard applies to the determination of styrene content in block copolymers with a styrene content not higher than 50% (mass fraction). This standard applies to blended vulcanizates of SBR and other polymers (NR, BR, IR and CR). If the styrene content of SBR in the blend is known, and the remaining components do not contain styrene, this method can be used to estimate the content of SBR in the blend. The absorption of any other non-extractable aromatic substances in a specific spectral region will interfere with the determination results of this method. When the inorganic filler insoluble in nitric acid exceeds 5% (mass fraction) in the compound, the result obtained by this method is low.
