This standard stipulates the determination of free water or crystal water content of most organic and inorganic solid and liquid chemical products by Karl Fischer method. In some cases, samples require pretreatment measures, which are specified in the corresponding national standards. This standard specifies two titration methods that use visual inspection and electric quantity to determine the end point. When there is no coulometric instrument, the visual method can be used, which is a direct titration method, but can only be used for colorless solutions. The coulometric method includes direct titration and back titration, no matter which one is used, it is more accurate, therefore, the coulometric method is recommended.
