Scope
This standard specifies the general requirements for ultrasonic testing of marine metal composite materials, ultrasonic testing of composite steel plates, ultrasonic testing of surfacing layers, and test reports. This standard is applicable to A-type pulse ultrasonic detector to detect unbonded defects in marine metal composite materials. This standard does not apply to the detection of composite materials with an acoustic impedance ratio (i.e. the ratio of high impedance to low impedance) greater than 3. For ultrasonic testing of composite materials with a base metal thickness less than 6 mm, a composite layer thickness less than 1 mm, and a radius of curvature less than 150 mm, the method in Appendix A is recommended.
