This part of SN/T 0801 specifies two methods for the determination of unsaponifiable matter in exported animal and vegetable oils and fats: ether extraction method and petroleum ether extraction method. The ether extraction method in this section is suitable for oils and fats with higher unsaponifiable matter content than ordinary animal oils and fats, especially for marine animal oils. It is also suitable for the determination of deodorized distillates and residues of vegetable oils. The petroleum ether extraction method is suitable for common animal and vegetable oils and fats, but is not suitable for oils with high unsaponifiable content, such as marine animal oils. Both methods are not suitable for the determination of feed grade fat unsaponifiable matter.
