This standard specifies two test methods for the determination of plasticizer loss. These two methods include:
——Method A: The sample is in direct contact with activated carbon;
——Method B: The sample is placed in a metal mesh container to prevent the sample from Direct contact with activated carbon. This standard is applicable to the quantitative determination of the mass loss of plastics under specified time and temperature conditions in the presence of activated carbon. Method A is particularly useful for materials that soften flow at higher temperatures and must be tested at lower temperatures. When this standard is used to quantitatively determine the loss of plasticizer during the heating process of plasticized plastics, it is generally assumed that there are not a large number of other volatile substances in the plastic being tested. This standard is an empirical test method suitable for quickly comparing the loss of plasticizers (usually volatiles) in different plastics. This standard can also be used to compare different plasticizers. In this case, a standard compound should be prepared using a well-characterized resin and a known proportion of plasticizer.
