- Scope
- This standard specifies the equipment, reagents and methods used in neutral salt spray (NSS), acetic acid salt spray (AASS) and copper accelerated acetic acid salt spray (CASS) tests. This standard is applicable to evaluate the corrosion resistance of metal materials and coatings. The tested object may have permanent or temporary corrosion resistance, or may not have permanent or temporary corrosion resistance. This standard also specifies a method for evaluating the corrosivity of the test chamber environment. This standard does not specify the sample size, test cycle and result interpretation of special products, these contents refer to the corresponding product specification. This test is suitable for detecting discontinuities, such as pores and other defects, in metals and their alloys, metallic coatings, organic coatings, anodic oxide coatings and conversion coatings. The neutral salt spray test is applicable to: -- metals and their alloys; -- metal coatings (anodic or cathodic); -- conversion coatings; -- anodic oxidation films; -- organic coatings on metal substrates. The acetic acid salt spray test is suitable for copper + nickel + chromium or nickel + chromium decorative coatings, and also for anodic oxide films of aluminum. The copper-accelerated acetic acid salt spray test is applicable to copper + nickel + chromium or nickel + chromium decorative coatings, and is also applicable to anodic oxide films of aluminum. This test is suitable for performance comparison of metal materials with or without corrosion protection, and is not suitable for sorting different materials with corrosion resistance.
