This standard specifies the methods for removing corrosion products formed in corrosive environments for corrosion samples of metals and alloys. The term "metal" as used in this standard refers to metals and alloys. According to the method specified in this standard, all corrosion products can be removed without substantially damaging the metal substrate, and it is possible to accurately determine the mass loss of metals in corrosive environments. In some cases, these methods can also be used for metallic coatings, but possible effects on the substrate must be considered.
