Air temperature is a basic quantity to describe weather and climate. Measurement of temperature uses the fact that two bodies in contact gain the same temperature. In this guideline different measurement principles are described which use temperature-dependent characteristics of materials. Because propagation of acoustic waves depends on temperature the effect can be used for its measurement too. Air temperature can deeply vary in space and time. Thus resulting that different instruments have to be used for different ranges of application. Furthermore this guideline describes how to install and to calibrate instruments for temperature measurements. Hints for sampling and analysing data are given too.
