Warning: Carbon tetrachloride is highly toxic and all operations should be performed in a fume hood. This standard specifies the infrared spectrophotometric method for the determination of petroleum, animal and vegetable oils in water. This standard is applicable to the determination of petroleum, animal and vegetable oils in surface water, groundwater, industrial wastewater and domestic sewage. When the sample volume is 1 000 ml, the extraction liquid volume is 25 ml, and a 4 cm cuvette is used, the detection limit is 0.01 mg/L and the lower determination limit is 0.04 mg/L; when the sample volume is 500 ml, the extraction liquid volume is 50 ml, when using a 4 cm cuvette, the detection limit is 0.04 mg/L, and the lower limit of determination is 0.16 mg/L.
