This standard specifies a method for measuring the thickness of metallic coatings. The method is to first form a step between the surface of the covering layer and the surface of the base metal, and then use a profile recorder to measure the height of the step. This standard specifies the characteristics of the instrument and specific measurement procedures for the profilometer method. This method is suitable for measuring the thickness of metal coatings with a thickness of 0.01 μm to 1000 μm on flat surfaces. If appropriate measures are taken, cylindrical surfaces can also be measured. It is very suitable for the measurement of tiny thickness, but the requirements for straightness and smoothness of the working surface with thickness less than 0.01μm are very strict, so it is recommended not to use this standard within the minimum thickness range of electronic stylus instruments. This method is suitable for the measurement of the thickness of the standard sheet prepared for the thickness of the covering layer.
