Scope
This standard specifies the requirements, test methods, inspection rules, signs, packaging, transportation and storage of food additive sodium benzoate. This standard applies to the reaction of benzoic acid produced by catalytic oxidation of petroleum toluene with sodium hydroxide or sodium bicarbonate produced by ion exchange membrane method, which is food additive sodium benzoate. This product is mainly used as a food preservative. Molecular formula: C7H5NaO2 Relative molecular mass: 144.11 (according to the international relative atomic mass in 2001)
