The guideline describes electrostatic precipitators constructed according to the two-stage Penney principle. These precipitators are characterized by a high degree of separation, also in case of finest dusts and aerosols, as well as by a very low pressure difference. Therefore, they are most suitable for use in air conditioning appliances and for separation of pollutants during production processes in the context of occupational safety. The electrostatic precipitators constructed according to the one-stage principle, which are manily used for the separation of particles from process and/or flue gases, are described in the guideline VDI 3678 Part 1.
