Scope

This part specifies the core language of TTCN version 3 (ie TTCN-3). TTCN-3 can be used as a specification for all types of reactive system tests on various communication ports. Typical application areas include protocol testing (including mobile protocols and Internet protocols), service testing (including supplementary services), module testing, testing based on CORBA platforms, API, etc. TTCN-3 is not limited to conformance testing, but can be used for many other kinds of testing, including interoperability testing, robustness testing, regression testing, system and integration testing. Test suite provisions for physical layer protocols are outside the scope of this standard. TTCN-3 is intended to be used as a specification for test suites independent of test methods, layers and protocols. TTCN-3 defines various representation formats, such as tabular representation format and graphic representation format. The specification of these presentation formats is outside the scope of this standard. This section defines a prescriptive approach used by ASN.1, as defined in the GB/T 16262.1-2006 standard. The coordinated use of other languages with TTCN-3 is out of the scope of this part of the study. Although the design of TTCN-3 has considered the final realization of TTCN-3 translator and compiler, the implementation means from abstract test suite (ATS) to executable test suite (ETS) is beyond the scope of this part.
