Scope

This standard specifies the methods for the determination of the density and relative density of crude oil and petroleum products in liquid state. The capillary pycnometer method in this standard is suitable for the determination of solid and coal tar products, including road asphalt, creosote and tar pitch or mixtures with petroleum products, and is not suitable for the determination of Reid vapor pressure measured in accordance with GB/T 8017 Density and relative density of highly volatile liquids exceeding 50kPa (0.5bar) or having an initial boiling point below 40°C. The graduated double capillary pycnometer method is suitable for the precise determination of the density and relative density of all products except high-viscosity products, and is especially suitable for tests with small sample volumes. This method is limited to the determination of liquids whose Reid vapor pressure measured according to GB/T 8017 does not exceed 130kPa (1.3bar) and whose kinematic viscosity is lower than 50mm²/s at the test temperature.
