This standard specifies the use of ultrasonic phased array and multi-probe detection systems for the detection of butt joints of oil and gas pipelines in service. This standard applies to computer-acquired data ultrasonic testing systems with multi-channel, acoustic focusing, zone scanning and diffraction wave transit time method or pulse reflection method and diffraction wave transit time method. This standard is applicable to the detection of butt joints of steel pipes with a wall thickness of 6mm-50mm and a pipe diameter greater than or equal to 57mm. It is not applicable to the detection of butt joints of steel pipes where the ratio of inner and outer diameters is less than 80%.
