This part specifies portable, mobile and fixed type I detectors for detecting methane concentration in the air in mines. Therefore, these detectors or their components can be used in coal mines prone to gas production. The requirements and test methods applicable to the detectors included in this part are specified in Part 1. This section is limited to detectors used to detect methane in air from 0% to 5% by volume, but not exceeding 5% by volume.
