Scope

1.1 This part of GB/T 15597 specifies the nomenclature system for thermoplastic polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) materials, which can be used as the basis for classification. 1.2 The types of PMMA plastics are distinguished by a classification system based on the following characteristic properties and information on the relevant intended use and (or) processing methods, important properties, additives and colorants: a) Vicat softening temperature; b) Melt mass flow rate; c) Viscosity number (optional). 1.3 This part of GB/T 15597 applies to all polymethyl methacrylate homopolymers and copolymers, the copolymers contain at least 80% by mass of polymethyl methacrylate (MMA), and the mass fraction is not more than 20% acrylate or other monomers. It is suitable for materials that are normally used in the form of beads and granules, as well as unmodified and modified materials with coloring agents and additives. This part of GB/T 1559 does not apply to elastomer-modified PMMA. 1.4 This section does not imply that materials with the same name must have the same properties. This part of GB/T 15597 does not provide engineering data, performance data or processing condition data required for materials for special purposes and/or processing methods. If these additional properties are required, they can be determined according to the methods specified in Part 2 of GB/T 15597. 1.5 In order to specify the special use of thermoplastic materials or to ensure the reproducibility of processing, additional requirements can be given in character group 5 (see Chapter 3, previous paragraph).
