Scope: This part specifies the physical medium dependent (PMD) layer requirements for Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) systems, and the interaction between the PMD layer and the Transmission Convergence (TC) layer. The uplink and downlink transmission rates of the GPON system specified in this section are gigabit levels. This section applies to GPON equipment in the public telecommunications network environment, and private telecommunications networks can also be used with reference.
