Scope: This part of GB/T 17037 specifies the method for determining the molding shrinkage and shrinkage after molding of injection molded samples of thermoplastic materials in parallel and perpendicular to the direction of melt flow. See ISO 2577 for the determination of shrinkage of thermosetting materials. The mold shrinkage specified in this section does not include the effect of moisture absorption. This effect is included in post-mold shrinkage and total shrinkage. See ISO 175 for the determination of shrinkage after molding caused only by moisture absorption. The molding shrinkage specified in this part refers to the free shrinkage, that is, the shrinkage caused by the unrestricted deformation of the test piece in the mold due to cooling during the holding period. It can thus be regarded as the maximum value of the restricted contraction.
