ISO 7539-9:2003 Corrosion of metals and alloys - Stress corrosion testing - Part 9: Preparation and use of pre-cracked specimens for tests under rising load or rising displacement
1.1 This section includes the design, preparation and application of pre-cracked specimens for studying the susceptibility of metals to stress corrosion cracking under incremental loads or incremental displacements. For tests under constant load or constant displacement, see GB/T 15970.6. The term "metal" in this section also includes alloys. 1.2 Because crack brevity requires maintaining elastic restraint, pre-cracked specimens are not suitable for evaluating thin products such as sheets or wires. Usually suitable for evaluating thick products such as plates, bars and forgings. Pre-cracked specimens are also suitable for welded parts. 1.3 Pre-cracked specimens may be quantitatively loaded by using a monotonically increasing load or displacement device at the loading point. 1.4 An outstanding advantage of pre-cracked specimens is that the critical flaw size of a member with a known geometry and subject to a known stress can be calculated from the measured data. If the defect size passes a critical value, stress corrosion cracking may occur. Pre-cracked specimens can also be used to determine stress corrosion crack growth rates. 1.5 A major advantage of this test is that it takes into account the potential effect of dynamic strain on the stress corrosion cracking limit. 1.6 At a sufficiently low loading rate, this method can determine the K value more quickly, and this value will be less than or equal to the value determined by the constant load or displacement method.
